Nintendo’s Mini NES retro game console was a sellout success last Christmas. So it’s no surprise the company is now releasing a follow-up; Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System a.k.a. Super NES or Mini SNES.
The Super NES (or Super Famicom in Japan) is one of the greatest video game consoles ever built. For the new “Mini SNES”, Nintendo has shrunk the console and added two classic controllers.

They also did a nice job adding 21 classic games, including Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy III, F-Zero, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past, Mega Man X, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario RPG, Super Mario World, and Super Metroid… That’s a lot of triple AAA games in a small package. As a bonus, fans will also receive added the hitherto unreleased Star Fox 2.
For many gamers, buying a Mini SNES is a slam-dunk sure-thing no-brainer of a purchase. Unfortunately, Nintendo – again – didn’t want to meet the demand. The SNES Mini has sold out in just a matter of minutes. So if you are looking for a SNES Mini, you either are very lucky or you pay up to $300 from private sellers on eBay or Amazon.
There’s another way of getting your Super Nintendo retro gaming console right away. All you need is a Raspberry Pi, free open-source software RetroPie, and a 3D printed DIY SNES-themed case. The whole DIY SNES case project should take you no longer than a day to build and setup.

It‘s an extremely cool looking DIY gaming console. Bougie used the Recalbox software to cut the cord and play the games with a Bluetooth controller. There’s also room in the case for you to add fancy enhancements if you feel like it.

What can it do? It gives your retro gaming station an authentic look. It was designed by Eugene Stephens because he didn’t want to pay the “outrageous prices people are wanting for them on eBay”. So he designed a case for a Raspberry Pi 3 “to make it look and function like a SNES. With it running RetroPie, we can not only play our favorite SNES and NES games, we can play almost any retro video game we want.”

What can it do? Designer cargo3000 scaled his Raspberry Pi SNES case to 42% the size of the original. To differentiate the design from other SNES Pi cases, the top switches are functional. The power switch slides up and down to the turn the system on and off, and the reset switch is spring loaded to shut down and reset the Pi.

What can it do? This Raspberry Pi SNES case was made by maker Blake, who ordered a cheap Raspberry Pi 2 B through Amazon. The result looks nice, especially if you 3D print it in a translucent filament.
Difficulty level of this Raspberry Pi SNES Case? This should be an easy task: Print the top, bottom, the cat and some buttons. Assemble the prints, pick your favorite color and you’re done.
