It seems Hong Kong-based 3D printer manufacturer Peopoly hasn’t tired of its Phenom MSLA printer. After releasing it in 2019, it’s since come out with two more machines in the series: The Phenom L and the Phenom Noir.
The company, whose name is derived from the slogan polymers for the people, began in 2017 with the release of its first SLA printer, the Moai on Kickstarter. Since then, it’s switched from SLA technology to MSLA.
A lot of Peopoly’s marketing for the Noir focuses on direct comparisons between it and Formlabs’ Form 3, claiming their printer is both five times faster and larger. It’s no question the Noir will be fast – it’s supposed to be 80 to 100% faster than the original Phenom – and big, but will it be worth it?
Priced at $3,800, the Phenom Noir is not being shipped out yet, but we’ve compiled everything we know about it. Read on as we review its specs.
MSLA 3D printers are getting faster than ever and the Phenom Noir is no exception to this rule. Peopoly boasts its machine is five times faster than a Form 3 and 80 to 100% faster than the original Phenom. This speed will come in handy if you’re using the machine for tasks like prototyping, or if you’re just an impatient person.
Such speed is possible thanks to the use of a monochrome LCD for the masking of the layers. Allowing a greater intensity of light to pass through than standard LCDs typically used in desktop MSLA printers, this characteristic of monochrome LCDs means that layers can cure in very little time.
The Noir has a larger build volume than the already sprawling Peopoly Phenom, further extending your ability to print exceptionally large parts in one go or to print multiples of smaller objects in batches. At 293.76 x 165.24 x 400 mm, the Noir dwarfs most other MSLA machines on the market.
