Polish high-end printer manufacturer Zortrax has announced a new FFF 3D printer, the Endureal.
The new machine was unveiled in full at the TCT Show, taking place on September 24th, 2019 in Birmingham, UK, and is expected to be shipped out in early 2020.
Rumors about the Endureal being geared towards printing PEEK — a high-temperature material desirable for professional applications due to its high temperature and chemical resistance as well as mechanical strength –proved themselves to be right, as the manufacturer states this 3rd generation 3D printer is designed for industry and production lines, such as advanced engineering and medical applications, yet remaining accessible and relatively plug and play.

The Zortrax Endureal utilizes Layer Plastic Deposition (LPD) technology, which is essentially the company’s spin on Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). Like the M300 Plus, Zortrax previous LPD based 3D printer, the Endureal also seems to offers an advanced dual-extrusion system capable of printing high-temperature filaments with soluble support structures.
According to the manufacturer, the advanced extruder is ready to process high-performance polymers, like PEEK or CFR filaments, but can also work with a wide range of cost-effective filaments, like Zortrax inhouse brands, Z-ULTRAT Plus, Z-NYLON, or Z-PCABS.
According to Zortrax, the Endureal features an enclosed build chamber which can be set to any value up to 200 °C. Improving on its previous generation dual-extrusion printer, the Endureal’s extruder components and filament cables are thermally shielded from the build chamber by an elastic insulator. So that even when the chamber is operating at maximum temperature, the vital components are kept cool.
Not only the printing chamber seems to be enclosed an heated, but also the filaments are stored in a closed temperature – and humidity-controlled compartment. Depending on the material used, the thermally-shielded extruder compartment is always kept at the right temperature, ensuring uninterrupted filament transmission. Furthermore, a built-in moisture absorber is responsible for reducing humidity to levels appropriate for highly hydrophilic materials.
The Endureal offers an aluminum build platform that can heat up to temperatures enabling processing of high-performance polymers. The – switchable – build plate is made of ferritic stainless steel covered with a PEI film so that all supported filaments should adhere properly and models are easy to remove. On top, the build-plates are fairly elastic to make model removal easier and faster, which is vital in high-volume production.
To keep performance further under control and ensure safety, Zortrax packed an array of additional sensors into the Endureal.
Such as temperature sensors, continually measuring the temperature of the printers crucial components to prevent overheating, and capacitive sensors – measuring the build platform and nozzles’ relative position to ensure calibration is on point. Furthermore, optical sensors working with no mechanical parts provide precise extruder positioning in all axes. Fan stop sensors immediately detect when fans are disconnected or malfunctioning to ensure adequate cooling. And if that wasn’t enough, printing can also be monitored remotely using a camera installed in the printing chamber.
Well, you get the point. Overall, the Zortrax Endureal is said to have 17 built-in sensors, which all work in real-time to guarantee seamless operation in high-tech manufacturing and product development projects.
Another – in high-volume production crucial – feature is the resume-print function. If a power outage is detected, the Endureal’s Blackout Response System uses energy stored in built-in capacitors to save the exact position of the printing head. Once the power is back on, printing can resume from the same spot; saving time and material.
The Endureal is set to be released in early 2020.
