Voltron

Of course, this hero couldn’t be left out of this list, right? There aren’t many free models out there, but this one is articulate and full of details that will make a difference and brighten up your collection.

While having fun preparing to replicate this hero, keep in mind that although it seems relatively easy, it’s actually a complex model and quite challenging. Keep in mind that you need to be fully prepared to create the galactic defender!

The recommendation is that the pieces be scaled to 200% of their original size so that the details aren’t damaged and the author recommends a layer height of 0.16 mm, 3 external walls, and 5% infill. To make your hero even more stunning, don’t forget that you can also try metallic filaments and make it even more beautiful and interesting and make the final finish easier. Go ahead and recreate this guardian in style!

Sword

This defender’s sword is something that cannot be missing from his collection, after all he will need it for the most challenging battles that lie ahead. In addition to being essential for fights, this detailed weapon has a beautiful and captivating design for fans of the 80s series, and as in the image above, it can become even more beautiful – if you don’t have a golden filament, some painting might do the trick.

To replicate this, you can use either a resin printer or an FDM, but remember to calibrate your printer well if you are doing this with filament. Although relatively simple, the details are very delicate, so using a lower layer height can help a lot to highlight the more complex parts. If you have difficulty replicating this, there is a remix that may be more resistant and simpler to make.

  • How printable/popular is it? With almost 1,000 downloads, a nice make, and a remix, it won’t be a battle to make one.

Functional Key Holder

The right key for the right Paladin!

If you’re tired of losing your keys or simply want to add a geeky touch to your daily routine, the Voltron Functional Key Holder is the right choice for you.

This 3D printed model not only keeps your keys safe, but also brings a little nostalgia for the legendary Defender of the Universe into your everyday life. With the ability to customize the key fit to suit your specific model, this design offers flexibility and practicality, making it ideal for any Voltron Paladin.

To ensure quality printing, the maker designed the model with a layer height of 0.15 mm in mind, allowing for good definition of the model’s details. Furthermore, some parts need supports – the files indicate this so that you don’t enable them unnecessarily for those that don’t. After printing, the designer strongly suggests performing a dry fit test to verify the accurate fit of the parts. For final assembly, you’ll need some glue – the specific choice will depend on which material you’re printing with.

  • Who designed it? creativspelerr
  • How printable/popular is it? With 32 parts to assemble, this can be a bit challenging, but it won’t be impossible for a dedicated Paladin; around 800 downloads show that some have already accepted the task.

Keychain

To defend the universe on a daily basis, you may need more than just a key; if that’s your case, this option will keep you on topic with something happy and fun. This keychain was created to celebrate the anniversary of the series, which was first released on September 10, 1984!

Don’t worry about the slight challenge that color printing might represent – it’s possible to avoid painting even if you don’t have a multicolor setup! From the image above, the red and blue parts can be printed separately and then assembled with the main part. For the change between the black and gold, simply pause (e.g. in Cura) to change the color of the filament.

With some vibrant filament colors, you’ll quickly be ready for everyday battles in style.

Coaster

For the biggest fans, the best memories

How about doing something special to accompany you while you watch the new series, but which at the same time reminds you of the classic look of Voltron? This coaster (or display stand) could be what you’re looking for!

Whether for a simple viewing session or a themed party, you’ll be prepared and have something beautiful and fun to welcome your friends and fellow fans with. Due to the complexity and variety of colors, for successful printing, a multicolor setup, such as a Bambu Lab printer with the AMS, will yield the best results. Of course, you could always print it in white and paint it.

This model is versatile and can be used as wall art (if scaled up) or as a magnet (if scaled down). When printing, position the model face down and use a textured plate for best results. Suggested print settings include a layer height of 0.2 mm, three walls, and an infill of 15%. These guidelines guarantee quality printing, resulting in a detailed and attractive piece.

  • Who designed it? WilliamsIndustries
  • How printable/popular is it? Around 60 downloads and 14 likes from Cults alone make it clear that you don’t have to be a superhero to make one.

Matchbox/Bandai Fist Replacement

The fun can't end!

Some collectors don’t take their copies out of the box, but what do you do if you decide to live your adventures more intensely and end up with a broken toy? Well, with 3D printing you can now get your hero back up and ready for another fight in no time.

This design is a replacement for the Matchbox/Bandai vehicle Voltron (a.k.a. DaiRugger XV), offering a unique opportunity to recreate an iconic part of the toy.

To reproduce this model, the designer mentions that they used a layer height of 0.5 mm and opted for PLA, with supports set to contact only the build plate. As can be seen by the printed model, these settings ensure an easy printing experience, while also allowing the design’s details to be accurately reproduced. Additionally, as suggested by the designer, the template can be improved and shared by the community, encouraging collaboration and continued development for fans.

Lion Head Replacement

Here’s another replacement option for toys made by Matchbox in the 1980s.

Fans of the series know that every detail counts to make everything perfect, just like your best memories, and that’s why with these, you can restore or improve your Voltron toys, maintaining their authenticity and ensuring that they’re ready for new interstellar adventures. If you don’t have a multicolor setup, check out the original this remix is based on.

The original model is designed to be printed in one, which will lead to some painting unless you don’t mind the uniform version. The remix includes a 3MF file and the original STL split for multicolor printing, in case you want to go for a version similar to the one seen in the image above. While this hasn’t been confirmed for both models, given the shape of the jaw, it looks like supports will be a must no matter which option you go for.

  • How printable/popular is it? The original, roaring replacement has two makes and a remix, while the multicolor remix has its own remix.
