Yes, the Thing of the Week can include cute things (see Crochet Kirby and Balloon Dog), as well as useful ones (see the Bag Hook and Phone Stand). In this instance, we went for a model that’s super useful and decided to keep it aesthetic by choosing a dazzling filament Flashforge had sent us to try out.
As described by the designer, this “Desk lamp clamp holder mount” – that’s a bit of a mouthful, but it’s as clear as a name can be – is meant to replace the stand for articulating desk lamps. Which was exactly what we were aiming for. It’s a sturdy model that affords the necessary resilience you’re after, when you consider how stable you want your desk lamp to be.
To print this model, we fired up Bambu Lab’s X1E – which was set up with a 0.6-mm nozzle – and selected a layer height of 0.3 mm. As for infill, we opted for 15% with a grid pattern. Of course, you can always opt for a stronger infill pattern and check out other tips, if you don’t want to run any risks. And as mentioned, just because it’s useful doesn’t mean it can’t be stunning, which is why the filament of choice was Flashforge’s HS PLA Multicolor Abyssal Red.
We had no issues whatsoever printing or assembling the model, and the fact that it didn’t need supports can further drive the point that no post-processing was required. It was a matter of putting the parts together, adding the lamp, and taking a couple of great photos.
Maker firstgizmo has shared almost 150 designs on Printables, with ideas ranging from cute little world coasters to modular spice racks, plus an air plant planter and a fishing float bobber. And a print bed scraper and a 3D scanning marker target. Oh, and towel clamps and spool holders. The point is, firstgizmo’s got range!
While they haven’t shared any ways to financially support them, you can follow them at Printables to be on the lookout of their latest designs.
