So many planters, so little time! And yet, here we are.
Because we try to contrast the many 3D printers we’ve got in our offices with a few sources of green (okay, and a few very large plants that are closer to trees), we’ve got a variety of planters and vases. And having access to many filaments also means we don’t want just 20 of the same model – where’s the fun in that?
Which brings us to this Glitch Planter. How could we skip this model, when it’s not just about the dazzling design, but also the enhanced illusion when printed with a special filament? And of course we had to go opt for silk rainbow PLA.
Designer vevanix shared almost 10 files for the model on Printables, with variations including versions with and without drainage holes, a base plate, and solid options. Plus, if you want to print in vase mode, one of the STLs is clearly labeled for you to do so.
No matter how “Is the Matrix glitching?” the design may look, the settings to bring it to life are as simple as it gets. There’s no need for supports, meaning that post-processing will be a breeze. From the many makes shared – and our own experience – a 0.2-mm layer height does the trick nicely, and we’re not the only ones who’ve opted for a colorful or shiny filament.
That thing we said earlier about not 3D printing the same planter many times? Well, if we get our hands on glow-in-the-dark filament, we might sing a different tune. Then again, even opaque colors look good.
Just a tip? If you’re going to keep it outside or under the sun, consider PETG to better withstand UV rays; PLA will become brittle and change its color over time.
Maker vexanix has a few models shared on Printables and others on MakerWorld. Their models vary in theme and use, with the cool Spin Puzzle Box and Cheshire Cat especially catching our eye (hey, we like puzzles boxes and Alice in Wonderland; can you blame us?). If you come across any challenges when printing the models, post a question – vevanix replies to all doubts.
While vevanix doesn’t appear to have a Patreon or link to buy them a coffee, be sure to follow them on Printables and MakerWorld to be informed when they share new designs!
