Well, well, well, if it isn’t a Star Wars-themed 3D print on May 5th…
If the Thing of the Week were scheduled for Sundays, we might’ve gone for Yoda, but alas, we’re sticklers for schedules and here we are. (After all, we wouldn’t want to anger Darth Vader by lacking structure. We like our necks, thank you very much.)
Yes, you can definitely check out our articles on some of our favorite general Star Wars prints, plus Bobba Fett ones, epic models about Mandalorian, plus proper Mandalorian armor and helmets in case you’re into some serious cosplay, and last but not least, stunning lightsabers.
But maybe you want to show off your allegiance to the Force in a more subtle way, while also ensuring that you won’t be interrupted during that work call (which could’ve been an email). In just under an hour, you’ll be on your way to some peace and quiet (which’ll be ideal if you want to do a nine-episode marathon, no?) thanks to these Star Wars door handle signs.
We chose Darth Vader’s design because we had some black Anycubic High Speed PLA, and it was the most fitting design (plus, it may or may not match this editor’s Darth Vader coffee mug). We sliced the model on Bambu Studio, and as you can see from the image above, we had an initial hiccup that led to a few tweaks for the second – and final – version.
For starters, we scaled the model up to 120% and we selected the 0.12-mm high quality profile for the P1P. Because of the textured plate, the first take had a glossy base while the top was matte, so we also rotated the design to have a galactic sparkle finish. As per the designer’s suggestion, we also enabled the “detect thin wall” feature under Strength, and last but not least, we increased the infill to 30% for a sturdier model.
Whether it’s due to the increased size of the second version or just the Force being on our side, the letters also came out clearer and there was negligible stringing. This print redeemed itself, kind of like Anakin. (Is this comparison too much of a stretch? Oh, well, this editor only wants to show she’s actually seen the movies while she listens to the soundtrack and writes this up…But enough about us.)
3D Print Bunny is a designing fave at All3DP; in fact, we also featured her in a previous Thing of the Week. In addition to supporting her on Patreon, Thangs, and Printables, you can also follow her on MakerWorld. Most of her designs are shared on Printables from what we’ve gathered, so that might be the best platform to stay fully informed on her latest dazzling creations.
At Printables.
If you like what you see and cannot print it yourself, check out Craftcloud or other 3D printing services.
