If you are heading to Lisbon, you should pay a visit to 3D Europa. The 5-meter-tall statue is made from more than 300 3D printed parts. 

3D Europa is a sculpture designed by Portuguese artist Leonel Moura especially for ICT (Innovate, Connect, Transform), the biggest Information and Communication Technologies event in Europe.

ICT 2015 is a European Commission initiative, this year co-organized with the Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia), that is underway in Lisbon.

Creator Leonel Moura was nominated European Ambassador for Creativity and Innovation in 2009. He is working with artificial intelligence and robotics applied to art.

His 3D Europa statue has about 300 parts with fittings and is almost 5 meters tall. 

The Making of 3D Europa

This impressive work of art developed during the last 6 months. It was all 3D printed in PLA with the support of Beeverycreative and 3D Factory.

It all started out with a small prototype with just several colors, as you can see below.

After finishing the design, the printers started. 300 parts had to be at printed, which was done mainly at 3D Factory. Also, Beeverycreative helped out.

Leonel used 8 permanent 3D printers and counts also with the community’s help to make it possible. After a while, the parts came together.

After struggling with bad weather, the statue was finally erected. Now go visit it!
