A leaked screen protector and 3D printed chassis has people buzzing about what Apple is planning with the iPhone 8.

Last year, the trailblazing tech company Apple revealed the highly anticipated iPhone 7. Certain features of this device, particularly the elimination of the headphone jack, were considered to be either bold or infuriating for customers.

Now, as the company gears up to present the next generation of its smartphone, which will presumably be called the iPhone 8, some more major changes could be on the way.

This past week, the YouTube channel TechSmartt received a leaked screen protector for the iPhone 8, observing it alongside a 3D printed chassis to unearth details about the features of this new smartphone.

The iPhone 8: What To Expect From Apple’s Upcoming Smartphone

The 3D printed model featured in the video showcases vertical cameras on the back, while the screen protector design suggests vast differences to the front of the phone. For starters, the iPhone 8 screen protector has four holes where the front-facing camera has been located in the past.

Even more surprisingly, the screen protector had no cut-out for the home button, confirming previous reports that Apple would be stripping away this feature. The 3D printed model and screen protector also hints that there will be no bezels, meaning that the screen will take up the entire front of the phone.

Without a home button, Apple’s TouchID function could become extinct in the iPhone 8. Instead of TouchID, some have guessed the Apple might use a iris scanner to replace this function.

There’s been a lot of gossip running the rumor mill. Keller and some others suggest that the TouchID could be moved from the home button to the power button located on the side. Other popular YouTubers like EverythingApplePro have also revealed some potential information on the iPhone 8, including new specs, enhanced speakers, etc.

According to Keaton Keller, the host of TechSmartt, the 3D printed iPhone 8 chassis was produced by the 3D printed footwear company Feetz. The print was created from legitimate CAD files that have been circulating around the internet. In this particular case, it’s interesting to see how 3D printed models are being used to help investigate rumors about the iPhone 8.
