Dead battery blues when playing Pokémon Go? You’re not alone. Here’s a 3D printed Pokédex to work around the problem.

Pokémon Go seems to have been engineered specifically to test the limits and battery of our smartphones, but now there’s a smart solution.

To play the game you need to have mobile data, GPS, and the LCD screen running, while the processor constantly updates to render a live map.

This can destroy your battery life, and with a Pokémon battle thrown in, you may find your phone switching off before you have any hope of catching ’em all.

Thankfully Sparkfun user Npoole has come up with a 3D printed Pokédex case with room for a mobile charging pack.

He modestly says his design ”is smart, but not particularly stylish. Besides that, the cord can get in your way when you’re really putting your wrist into catching a CP240 Golbat.”

3D Printed Pokédex is Authentic Retrotastic

Npoole adds: “If you’re gonna be the very best, like no one ever was, you’re going to need to look the part. So I present to you: The Battery Pack Pokédex.”

The Battery Pack Pokédex case was designed for his Samsung Galaxy S4, and 3D printed using ABS in classic Pokédex red with an acetone polish.

Pokémon fans will recognize the portable Pokémon scanner and encyclopedia device as the original model Professor Oak gave to Ash Ketchum.

However, as well as being an impressive 3D printed case, the Pokédex also packs a 2,600mAh battery — so you can keep your phone charged and continue to play for longer. A great added touch is that Npoole added LED lights to make the Pokédex that much more realistic too.

If you have your own 3D printer, then you can download files for cases for the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 6S from Github and make your own.

In the meantime, Npoole says he is working on a revision of this design which can accomodate additional batteries, and even cooling fans too.
