Between now and Christmas, there’s going to be a huge flurry of Star Wars themed 3D printing. The release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens will inspire the maker community to dizzying new heights, and we’re looking forward to seeing the results.

Early contender for Star Wars thing of 2015 are these 3D printed Stormtrooper foosball heads. Designed by maker excite, with the files posted to YouMagine, they’re not a complete replacement for conventional table football figures. Rather, you just print off the helmets and clip them on top.

As excite explains:

I decided to enhance our Foosball table with a “Star Wars” theme. Originally, I was going to print the entire Foosball “player”, but there was some concern about the 3D printed players breaking. In the end, I just printed a head that snaps onto the head of the Foosball player.

The 3d printed stormtrooper foosball head is a remix of a prior design by maker ProCoPrint3D, whose non-foosball themed helmet is located on Thingiverse.

Thanks to a Creative Commons license, excite has the freedom to modify, share and distribute so long as there is clear attribution. And for customization options to your specific foosball table, the OpenSCAD files are available for resizing.

3D Printed Stormtrooper Foosball doesn’t Bring Balance to the Force

A thing to note, however, is that these heads are bigger than the standard head of a foosball figure. Subsequently, the weight and balance of each figure will be changed.

“They tend to hang upside down more than they did before,” says excite, “and the head may hit the ball more than it did before.” Serious foosball players won’t appreciate this modification if it impacts the quality of their game.

Funnily enough, it’s well known that stormtroopers have terrible aim. How many times have they shot their blasters at Luke, Leia and Han point blank, and missed entirely? We can accept that a 3D printed stormtrooper foosball player won’t be any better when it comes to kicking a ball.
