Although we’ve seen around many great Game of Thrones 3D models to 3D print, none of them have been as cool as a life-sized version of one of the characters.
Thingiverse user “Sir_Ken”, also known as Jeff Christianson, decided to 3D print Tyrion Lannister, also known as “the Imp” or “the Half-man”.
Christianson began the process of attempting to create a 3D model and print of Lannister by using a model he found on Thingiverse.
But, he explains: “I can’t find the original figure on Thingiverse that I used to scale up to 1:1 but Prozer has a model that looks identical here. I wanted to give credit to the original model maker but I honestly can not say who it was.”
But, this figure was a useful start as Christianson was able to use Meshmixer to create a model of the size he wanted. Initially, the plan was to create a smaller print but Christianson got somewhat carried away and soon created a model which was the same height as the Lannister actor, Peter Dinklage.
Christianson sliced the model into ten printable pieces. He then began printing the 1:1 model using spools of black PLA filament which he bought from Amazon based on price alone.
The resulting print needed ten spools of filament and six days to print. It weighs 22 pounds or around 10 kilograms. The ten individual prints were glued together and glazing putty was used to fill any gaps.
Christianson spent a lot of time sanding the print and priming it using grey filler and epoxy to ensure it was smooth. Finally, when this process was complete, he began painting the print.
Slowly Tyrion Lannister emerged thanks to a mix of acrylic paint and airbrushing. Christianson was trying to make the 3D print appear as lifelike as possible. Amazingly, he’d never used an airbrush before but the result looks fantastic.
The final 3D replica of Tyrion Lannister stands at 4 foot 5 inches tall (or 134.62) and 25 pounds. Christianson spent 1,400 hours on this project and you can decide for yourself whether you’d also like to do the same as his files are available on Thingiverse.
And if you want a bigger project, why not go for a 1:1 Star Wars Death Star?
