For any company considering a ceramic 3D printer or wondering if ceramic additive manufacturing might offer advantages or opportunities, VoxelMatter’s new Ceramic AM Market 2025 analysis and forecast is a good place to start.

Not only does it provide an easily understandable overview of the technology, applications, and hurdles in the market, but you’ll also find an overview of ceramic AM service providers and a plethora of charts on hardware sales and key brands.

The report found that ceramic 3D printing is vastly undervalued as a technological opportunity because of a lack of vision from manufacturers.

“Ceramic additive manufacturing is one of the first segments to present a genuine industrial revenue opportunity,” the report says. “However, the number of clearly identified viable applications for 3D printed technical ceramic final parts remains limited … due to a lack of awareness among the largest operators in the ceramics market and the ongoing challenge of recognizing and identifying value-added additive manufacturing applications for ceramics.”

Yet, the report points to an increasing number of valuable production application cases that have emerged in recent years, and a rapidly accelerating rate of new applications entering the market.

Ceramics may be following the established path of the metal additive manufacturing market, where machines launched that could 3D print a wide range of metals, but for what was left up to other companies to decipher. That slow uptake led the printer makers themselves to develop ideal use cases for their technology. They then pitched their machines to companies in those specific markets with much of the R&D already done.

Key applications include dental and medical implants, aerospace and space applications, and energy industry parts.

In 2024, production of final parts rose significantly, reaching just under 84,000 units, half of which were prototypes, the report found.

The ceramic additive manufacturing industry is set to continue growing at an accelerated pace, according to the report, with total ceramic AM part production expected to exceed 3.3 million units by 2034. By that time, hardware and services are expected to account for more than $1 billion in annual revenues.

“Ceramic AM is still an investment-driven market, with commercial applications not yet generating sufficient revenue for the market to scale fully,” the report found. “However, this is gradually changing, as an increasing number of valuable production application cases have emerged in recent years, and the rate at which new applications enter the market is rapidly accelerating.”

VoxelMatters Ceramic AM Market 2025 is sold for £4,490.00 exc. VAT or roughly $5,818.
