On Tuesday, August 23, Shaper Tools — the San Francisco-based company responsible for the handheld Origin “smart” CNC router — launched Shaper Studio, a new design suite for users of digital fabrication tools.

Shaper Studio is compatible with Glowforge, Cricut, and other CNC machines. Joe Hebenstreit, CEO of Shaper, said it should simplify the design process, especially for people with little CAD (computer-aided design) experience.

He said: “What may be a simple sketch of an idea with pencil and paper can require hours or days of work to transfer to a sophisticated CAD program. Shaper Studio works on any device, doesn’t require any CAD experience, and is like having a full design studio in your pocket.”

Shaper Studio is $99 a year. It is compatible with all devices and, in an effort to make design simple, it has a library of 3 million pre-made designs.

Shaper Studio designs can be exported as SVGs for use with various different digital fabrication tools, including laser cutters.

The new design application was launched at the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta. You can download it from the Shaper Tools website.
