Arduino is making noise at Embedded World this week, adding two new products to its Arduino Pro product range: the Portenta Mid Carrier and the Pro 4G Module.
The Portenta Mid Carrier is a carrier board that is compatible with the Portenta C33, Portenta H7, and Portenta X8. Designed with prototyping in mind, the Mid Carrier is billed as helping developers “quickly access all Portenta’s high-density signals” and features a microSD slot, an Ethernet and USB-A port, two CAN lines, a mini PCIe connector, and can be paired with a MIPI or Arducam camera.
Use cases here run the gamut. Arduino does specifically mention machine vision applications such as object detection and recognition, which definitely hold potential for 3D printing applications. The device retails for $65 and is currently available on Arduino’s website.
The Pro 4G Module, meanwhile, can provide a 4G connection to Portenta-series devices, allowing users to remotely monitor connected machines or roll out firmware updates, Arduino says. It comes in two versions with varying price tags: EMEA for €29 (~ $31) and global ($65).
If you’re interested in the Portenta Mid Carrier or Pro 4G Module, you’ll want to stop by Arduino’s blog (where you’ll also find links to both devices’ product pages) to learn more about the many ways you could put them to work.
Many of the examples Arduino provides are decidedly industrial – from smart cities to fleet management to building inspections – but there’s a great deal of possibility, so the blog post is definitely worth reading.
