AutoCAD, the popular CAD software developed by Autodesk released its 2021 version and there are a few new features to unpack.
The commercial 2D and 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software is extremely versatile for all kinds of uses and industries, including engineering, architecture, graphic design and more. It’s been around for donkey’s years and is considered the grandfather of desktop CAD software by many.
But, according to Marcus O’Brien, AutoCAD’s product management director, some of the new updates are geared towards modernizing the software.
“This new release delivers enhancements and features that will make a difference in efficiency and productivity right away.”
Among the updates are a new Drawing History feature, which lets you see the changes you’ve made to your drawings and their evolution, allowing you to compare versions with one another.
There are also improvements to graphics performance, the Blocks palette got enhanced, and you can compare two versions of an Xref and make changes while still in your drawing.
The AutoCAD web app is also connected to Google Drive now, so you can more easily access and save files. This Google Drive integration is the latest in a slew of integrations that include Box, Dropbox, and Microsoft.
The company also announced that starting April 3, Mac users will get to take advantage of new features AutoCAD 2021 and AutoCAD LT 2021. A full breakdown of the release is covered in detail on the Autodesk blog.
