Autodesk has announced an AI-powered workflow “for artists and producers” called Flow Generative Scheduling, as well as new AI features for its Maya and Flame software.

Maya offers tools for modeling, simulation, rendering, and animation, while Flame is a visual effects and finishing software often used for post-production processes like compositing and color grading.

Autodesk says the new features to both products are a result of its acquisition of Wonder Dynamics, the creators of Wonder Studio software, which “combines AI with established tools to help artists more easily animate, light, and compose 3D characters within live-action scenes.”

For Maya, this means the addition of MK Deformer: a tool that uses machine learning to process “complex deformation systems” for character models, then represent them with “a fast, machine-learned approximation”.

In Flame, the new ML Timewarp tool helps users retime clips by automatically inserting an intermediate frame between two frames in a shot. This should help achieve higher-quality renders, as well as save time when transferring files, Autodesk says.

Additionally, Autodesk has introduced “Flow Generative Scheduling”, an AI-based tool that helps teams track factors that may affect production schedules, such as budget, deadlines, and team availability. With such oversight, users can better compare and create more balanced production schedules.
