Update – Feb 5, 2024: Bambu Lab has now issued a recall for all A1 3D printers. See All3DP's latest A1 recall coverage for up-to-date details.

Bambu Lab has issued a callback for damaged A1 heatbed cables following “feedback concerning unstable temperature and heating issues” that the company believes is linked to strain at the cable’s root – the connecting point between the printer and cable.

This, Bambu Lab says, could be the result of rough handling during transport, improper handling during assembly, or accidental external force after the cable is connected. While fuses on the A1’s heatbed and power supply should prevent bed overheating or a full-on printer meltdown, the damage could affect the printer’s temperature reading, causing power loss or short circuits.

“This damage might not immediately cause the cable to fail, but it will make the cable more susceptible to fatigue and damage in later use,” Bambu Lab said in a blog post announcing the issue yesterday. “We think it is a serious threat to the safety that we should address.”

The blog post details the issue with pictures of what the damage may look like to affected users. Bambu Lab advises users whose cables appear damaged to contact its customer support for diagnosis and replacement in the form of a DIY revised assembly or a new printer. Those who opt to replace the assembly themselves will also receive “compensation” for their time.

The company is clear that the issue won’t have affected most users, but has also created a “cable protector” that will be sent to all A1 customers in the next month to prevent future damage. The cable protector is also available as a free 3MF file for download and print.
