Bambu Lab has launched the A1 3D printer – a “full-size” bed-slinger that will serve as the younger-but-bigger brother to the A1 Mini.

Seeing as the machine leaked last week, this may not come as a full-on surprise. Nevertheless, now it’s official. The A1 will feature a 256 x 256 x 256 mm build volume and reach claimed speeds of up to 500 mm/s and acceleration of 10,000 mm/s². That’s fast enough to print a “Speedbenchy” in 14 minutes, Bambu Lab says.

To maintain print quality, the A1 performs an XY calibration before every print. Additionally, the printer’s quick-swap hotend boasts an Eddy Current sensor to actively monitor and compensate flow rate for more stable extrusion.

Other features on the A1 include “all-metal rails and linear bearings” referring to the system’s linear rail X-axis and discreet linear rod axes, filament tangle and runout sensors, and active motor noise cancellation – which was also recently brought to Bambu Lab X1 printers in a firmware update with the P1 series soon to follow. The A1 is also compatible with the AMS Lite, Bambu Lab’s four-filament feeding add-on. Users control the machine via a 3.5-inch IPS touchscreen.

Essentially, the A1 looks to be a bigger version of the A1 Mini, and that’s not a bad thing. Our four-star review found that the A1 Mini’s “self-calibration, print quality and speed are terrific, and the software is smooth”, with a rattling purge-wiper to be among its relatively few (and minor) flaws. Should the A1 perform anything like that, we’d be pleased.
