Bambu Lab has launched PrintMon Maker, a free, generative AI tool on MakerWorld that allows you to create Pokémon-like characters with a text or image prompt.
The tool has been in beta since August and is as simple as it sounds. Just type or upload a prompt describing the “PrintMon” you wish to create, click generate, and poof – your “fantasy creature” is created in just a few minutes. Making this all the more impressive, the models can be configured in the tool for multicolor printing, with four-, eight-, and twelve-color options letting you achieve varying levels of “realism” in the color print. Other configuration options include adding a base, either as a part of the print or separate, and refinement of the model’s eyes.
Making the jump from a 2D image to a 3D model you can configure and export costs MakerLab credits, currently at a discounted cost of 10 per model (down from 50.) MakerWorld points, accumulated through the use of and interaction on the site, can be exchanged for more MakerLab credits.
Compared to the colorful results PrintMon Maker yields, the UI is fairly barebones – but don’t let that discourage you from getting your hands dirty, because the possibilities are essentially endless.
The similarities to Pokémon here might raise some eyebrows, especially given the ongoing lawsuit between famously litigious Nintendo and “Palworld,” an open-world survival game that sees player characters building bases and capturing “Pals,” which are heavily reminiscent of Pokémon characters.
That lawsuit, however, is not focused on the characters themselves, but on the method of their capture via “Pal Spheres,” which Nintendo says infringes on its patent for the Pokéball capture system. With this in mind, it seems PrintMon Maker should be safe from any courtroom appearances.
You can check out and start experimenting with the PrintMon Maker tool on MakerWorld. All you need is a MakerWorld account, and you’re ready to start printing them all.
