The material is touted as an “upgraded version of PETG Basic.” Bambu Lab claims it can print twice as fast – at speeds similar to PLA – and results in less stringing, oozing, and clumping.

It can also create prints with smooth textures and “consistent gloss,” and, like regular PETG, is suitable for outdoor applications, thanks to its water, UV, and temperature-resistance. It will be available in yellow, orange, green, red, blue, black, gray, and white colors.

Bambu Lab made some small ripple earlier in the summer by “discontinuing” its PETG Basic line of filament, listing it as out of stock, and adding a note to the store page explaining it would not be restocked and that a new form of PETG would arrive soon. Well, that time is now, with PETG-HF swooping in to offer PLA-like performance with all the desirable properties of PETG.

When we asked, a Bambu Lab representative refused to rule out PETG Basic ever returning, though, explaining that the company does not see PETG-HF as a direct replacement, potentially leaving the door open for a reformulated PETG Basic to return.

Bambu Lab PETG-HF is available as of today, with spools available for $19.99.
