Earlier this week, we wrote about Bambu Lab’s announcement of the P1S 3D printer, serving as the first addition to the OEM’s P1 line of CoreXY machines. Now, we’re back with the details.
Releasing today, the Bambu Lab P1S is more or less a fully enclosed version of the popular P1P. In addition to its predecessor’s features and its enclosure, the P1S also features a three-part “cooling solution” consisting of an auxiliary part cooling fan for prints, a chamber regulator fan for the printer’s interior temperature, and a control board fan. Additionally, an activated carbon filter aims to eliminate or reduce odors and harmful gases when printing with filaments such as ABS.
Bambu Lab says these changes make the P1S “ideal” for 3D printing with materials like PA, PC, ABS, and ASA, whereas the P1P is simply “capable”.
Like the P1P, Bambu Lab says the P1S can reach speeds of up to 500 mm/s and 20,000 mm/s2 acceleration, which is fast enough to “print a Benchy in 18 minutes”. An optional AMS, meanwhile, enables users to print in up to 16 colors.
Further bolstering the new machine is a built-in camera and “refined” hardware and software that is “based on 12 months of real-world feedback”, according to a press release – although it is unclear exactly what this entails.
The Bambu Lab P1S is available on Bambu Lab’s website for $699 or $949 for the P1S combo, which includes both the printer and AMS. If you’ve already purchased a P1P, the company is also offering a $150 upgrade kit that allows users to “fully level up their printer to the P1S” with a DIY enclosure, fans, and several other components.
