Update - 17/10/24: Bambu Lab has announced a delay to its large 3D printer until "early 2025".
Though Bambu Lab didn’t have much new to share during this past Rapid + TCT, it soon will. When speaking with All3DP at the conference, Bambu Lab co-founder Huaiyu “Sprite” Liu confirmed rumors of a “bigger” Bambu Lab 3D printer in the works.
“Everybody’s asking for a bigger printer, so we had to work on it,” says Liu. But just making it bigger isn’t enough. “We know that people have a higher expectation, so we won’t just make a bigger one; we want to bring more innovation to our next model.”
Though Bambu Lab had nothing new at Rapid + TCT, the speculation over the upcoming 3D printer followed wherever the brand was mentioned.
Designs have been finalized, and the printer is in its testing stages, says Liu. “Testing is a long and tedious process. We need to make sure all the features and the performance are reliable, sustainable, and easy to fix.”
Bambu Lab isn’t willing to go into more detail about the upcoming 3D printer just yet, but confirmed that it will have an enclosed frame. Liu couldn’t answer questions about the system’s kinematics at this time.
However the final results look, it seems sure to be an approachable system. Liu spoke to Bambu Lab’s overarching goal to “make 3D printers more accessible the general public,” and lamented over the technical-knowledge requirements that still act as a barrier in 3D printing. “Even the X1C is one step better, but we still have a lot of obstacles… so things need to improve to ensure people with no background can do this.”
Aside from building intuitive printers, part of the way Bambu Lab continues to bridge knowledge gaps is with MakerWorld’s MakerLab experiments. “We set up some simple tools for users to create their own models based on an AI algorithm.”
Liu says new MakerLab experiments are ongoing and couldn’t share much in the way of details, but did say that more tools “in the AI direction” are in the mix.
