Bambu Lab’s latest firmware update brings motor noise cancellation to X1 series 3D printers, with the P1 series soon to follow.

The feature is already available on the A1 Mini and, as we noted in our review of that machine, functions similarly to active noise cancellation in headphones “by listening out for noise motor frequencies and cutting them out from normal operation to the tune that the printer operates quietly.” We found motor noise canceling to work quite well on the A1 Mini, although cooling fans, bearings, and the purge wiping mechanism were all still audible.

In addition to reducing noise, Bambu Lab claims that motor noise canceling reduces vibration, thus improving external wall quality. Using the feature requires calibration, which Bambu Lab says takes around 15 minutes.

The firmware update also arrives with several other features and improvements, including an improved UI menu structure for printers’ “Settings” pages and improved screen interface latency, which Bambu Lab says will result in a “slightly faster” touchscreen. Additionally – and in conjunction with Bambu Studio V1.8.1 – users can add, modify, and delete custom filament.
