Beagleboard has released a successor to the popular PocketBeagle SBC: the PocketBeagle 2.

The “pocket-size” device is powered by a TI AM6232 SoC, which includes a dual 64-bit Arm Cortex-A53 microprocessor and a single-core Arm Cortex-M4F microcontroller and arrives with 512 MB of SRAM, a USB-C port, microSD slot, and 72 expansion pin headers. There’s also a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery charger and six LEDs: two that indicate power and battery charging status and four that users can customize.

At a glance, the PocketBeagle 2 seems like a fairly significant step up from its predecessor (Beagleboard does, after all, call it an “upgraded version”). While it might not have the power of a current Raspberry Pi, Beagleboard does highlight “IoT devices, robotics projects, and educational applications” as potential use cases here, opening the doors for a lot of possibility and creativity.

The device costs about $29, and is available from third-party retailers. You can find a list of those, as well as full specs and more information on the PocketBeagle 2 on Beagleboard’s website.
