PiDog is a Raspberry Pi-powered robot dog with ChatGPT integration that can track movements, respond to commands, perform simple tricks – and even wag its tail. It has a rechargeable battery, onboard camera, microphone, and a host of sensors that allow for interactivity with “hearing, vision, and touch”.
The build seems to be the real star of the show, straddling the line between intermediate and advanced, while Python support should open the doors to customization for those looking for a coding challenge.
YouTuber ctrl-alt-rees’s video documenting his build of the device should be a good first stop for those interested, if only for the reveal of the finished results, which shows the PiDog in all of its rather clunky glory. Obviously, you’re not getting Boston Dynamics levels of fluidity or tech here, but this nonetheless looks like a fun little project to pass the time.
PiDog kits start at $179, but can also be purchased as part of a combo that includes a Raspberry Pi and an SD card. Check SunFounder’s website for details there, as well as full specs.
