The 18th Annual Tribeca Film Festival is currently taking place in New York until May 5th. What better way to celebrate than with a glass of whiskey inside a 3D printed lounge?
Bulleit, the Kentucky whiskey company, claims to be uniting “next-generation technology, film, music & cocktails” via its Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier Lounge. The lounge was printed as part of Bulleit’s Frontier Works, a series of projects where the whiskey brand collaborates with people who are “pushing the frontier of their craft of expertise.”
Sophie Kelly, Sr. Vice President of Whiskey at Diageo North America, explains: “Cultivating cultural partnerships and making friends on the frontier is at the heart of Bulleit and our Frontier Works projects. When you think about Tribeca Film Festival, it’s a celebration that goes beyond filmmakers. It’s a massive cultural program and we’re thrilled to bring the Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier to this iconic moment in this iconic city, giving people an amazing social and cultural experience, which is at the core of what we do.”
The lounge was developed in collaboration with architecture and design practice FAR frohn&rojas and the 3D fabrication team at Machine Histories. Looking at the imagery provided, we see sharp, impossible lattices criss-crossing to form some scaffolding. We have no details regarding the construction process, but it looks laser sintered to us.
The bar itself is not the end of Bulleit’s use of 3D printing for the festival. Even the drinks are fabricated through computer controlled motion. Working in collaboration with Benjamin Greimel from Print A Drink, there will be 3D printed cocktails at the bar, too.
These 3D printed drinks will be served by famous bartenders, such as Melissa Markert, during a series of private invite-only events. Bulleit ensures the 3D printed whiskey experience will be intimate and immersive and “unlike anything anyone in the Big Apple has ever seen before.”
Those invited to these events will be able to enjoy their 3D printed cocktail in this 3D printed lounge while listening to music from New York-based DJs. There will also be high-tech lighting projections featuring content taken from films from the Festival.
The lounge will host actors, filmmakers, and celebrities for after parties of showings including Crown Vic, Plus One and In Living Color. But, if you visit the Bulleit website and put your name on the guest list, you could be lucky enough to visit between Wednesday, April 24th and Friday, April 26th.
