Caribou3D Research & Development has opened preorders for an IDEX 3D printer in both assembled and kit form.
Front and center on the CaribouIDEX are two independent Bondtech LGX Lite extruders that are height adjustable and can be paired with the E3D Rapidchange Revo system of quick-release nozzles. Alternate hot ends include Slice Engineering’s Mosquito or Mosquito Magnum. Regardless of the configuration, the CaribouIDEX is capable of printing in single, dual, copy, or mirror modes.
The CaribouIDEX is powered by a Duet3Mini5+ board and boasts Wi-Fi capability, with users controlling the machine via a front-mounted PanelDue touchscreen. There’s also a magnetic PEI powder-coated spring steel sheet, a reverse Bowden tube setup “for smooth filament transport,” automatic mesh bed leveling, and independent Z-axes with tilt correction.
The CaribouIDEX’s “CANbus solution,” meanwhile, means only four cables run from the extruders to the main board.
The Germany-based Caribou3D is a bit of a lesser-known OEM, initially offering upgrade kits that aimed to make Original Prusa hardware sturdier using aluminum extrusions and more flexible with greater build volumes. However, after obtaining the parts for complete machines, Caribou3D began selling full kits and assembled printers – as well as a bevy of parts, electronics, and filaments. There’s no official word on exactly how these function in the real world, we’d advise would-be buyers to do their due diligence before purchasing.
That said, preorders for the CaribouIDEX are now open, priced at ∼$2,900 (€2,665) for the assembled machine, which arrives calibrated and factory leveled, or ∼$2,460 (€2,250) for the DIY kit. Orders placed now have an estimated delivery date of four to six weeks. For more, check out the CaribouIDEX product page on Caribou3D’s website.
