A new offer from Creality sees the OEM giving away “K1 Enhancing Accessory Kits” to verified owners of K1 3D printers for next to nothing.

Two kits are available. Kit B is just under a dollar at $0.99 and consists of an AI camera and a roll of Creality’s Hyper PLA filament. Kit A is priced at $2.99 and features both camera and filament, plus an extruder and hot end – which appear to be the same as those in the existing K1. Both kits offer free shipping. We’re not totally sure why existing owners of K1 machines would want an extra extruder and hot end, but hey, it’s three bucks.

Regardless, the real star of the show here is the AI camera – the same component that’s included with the just-released K1 Max. As with most 3D printer cameras, it enables users to remotely monitor print progress and record timelapses, but this one differentiates itself by using a machine learning system to watch for debris or other signs of print failure, providing a degree of print overwatch – hence “AI camera”.

The event will run for two months, during which time all K1 owners are eligible to make a purchase via Creality’s website – so long as they provide verification of ownership, by submitting their printer’s SN code and purchase location.

The reasoning behind the offer itself is up for conjecture. We recently reviewed the K1, finding it to be capable in terms of speed and quality, but hit-and-miss with filaments and lacking in the software department. It’s doubtful the addition of a camera would help the machine in those regards, but perhaps it’s wise to avoid looking a gift horse in the mouth and simply take the (almost) free stuff.
