A full year ago, the Creality K2 and its multi-material CFS were announced, and an upcoming “multi-color upgrade kit” for the K1 was announced with it. That upgrade kit is finally here, available for preorder at $51.91.
The K1 Series CFS Upgrade Accessory Kit is compatible with the K1, K1 Max, K1C, and K1 SE, so it will cover a swath of early K-series users who have been longing to get their multi-color printing on. The kit adds a new extruder assembly with a “dedicated” filament cutter and run-out sensor necessary for the filament-changing process.
The installation process looks relatively involved, but not challenging. You’ll need to replace the extruder, slot in the other new peripheral components, and then update Creality OS from an included USB (OTA updates will be fine after). Then you’re off to the colorful races.
Creality makes a point of noting that only the integrated nozzle hotend, and specifically not the split-type nozzle, is compatible with the CFS and is sold separately for $32.99.
Notably, at the same time that Creality announced a “multi-color upgrade kit” would become available for the K1, it said the same of the Ender 3 V3 bed slinger. However, Creality has since told All3DP that the 3D printer will not be receiving CFS compatibility, and is instead serviced by the company’s recent collaborations with Co Print. If you are set on fitting a CFS to a bedslinger, the Creality Hi did recently launch.
Supplies of the K1 Series CFS Upgrade Accessory Kit are limited, Creality said on its Discord, and are already listed as sold out since its release on March 28. So, if you have a Creality K1 and are keen on some multi-color 3D printing, head over to the product page sooner rather than later.
