Desktop Health, the healthcare side of Desktop Metal, launched a new series of digital light processing resin printers designed for dental professionals. The company also came out with a dental resin it says is one of the strongest yet to receive FDA clearance for permanent use.
If the new series of printers from Desktop Health, which are called Einstein, look exactly like the Envision One DLP and Perfactory printers from EnvisionTec, there’s a good reason.
Desktop Metal bought EnvisionTec in 2021. But don’t think that these are simply renamed and repackaged. Desktop Health says there’s new tech under the hood and a closed-loop software upgrade that makes them faster and more accurate.
Sure, the core technology leverages EnvisionTec’s historical R&D and the 385 nanometer projector, but the Einstein series features new innovations, including something Desktop Health calls HyperPrint technology – although they haven’t released details yet on what exactly that is.
What they do say is that this new series offers 50% faster printing than the EnvisionTec versions.
The Einstein series includes:
Flexcera Smile Ultra+ is an FDA 510(k) cleared Class 2 medical device for permanent, printable dental restorations.
Desktop Health says this resin has been formulated with the strength of ceramic. When used with the Einstein 3D printers, dental providers can now print same-day crowns, bridges, veneers, and full and partial dentures.
Specifically, the company says Flexcera resins offer high fracture resistance, moisture resistance to prevent staining or discoloration, and an overall natural aesthetic that offers lifelike tooth translucency and a natural-looking smile.
Desktop Health has a menu of more than 60 materials for printing everything from night guards to artificial teeth.
