E3D Heats up With New ‘High-Temperature’ Revo Range

E3D has introduced a range of “high-temperature” products to its Revo ecosystem, which it says enables printers to extrude at temperatures of up to 500 °C.

The lineup consists of HTX nozzles, heater blocks, and hotside kits. The Revo HTX nozzles bear many similarities to E3D’s ObXidian lineup, with hardened steel tips, copper carriers, and copper spreader segments, diverging in their chromium nitride coating that offers improved abrasion resistance.

Revo high-temperature heater blocks, meanwhile, are made with plated copper in an effort to achieve “rapid heat-up times and maintain stable temperatures, even at extreme levels”, according to an E3D blog post.

The real stars of the show here, however, are the pre-assembled, customizable hotside kits. In purchasing one, all users will receive a heater block. They’ll also make a choice regarding nozzles – either none, one 0.4 mm HTX nozzle, or one each of a 0.25 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.6 mm, and 0.8 mm.

Additionally, users will choose between a P100 or P1000 sensor and a “high precision” or “high temperature” heater cartridge. The high-precision heater is designed to reach temperatures up to 400 °C, with “a rounder cartridge helping ensure greater surface area contact with the heater block for more reliable heat transfer”, according to the Revo High-Temperature Hotside product page.

Meanwhile, the high-temperature heater is built for temperatures of up to 500 °C, which E3D says makes it more suited for high-temperature thermoplastics such as PEEK or PEI. Printing at such temperatures, however, is tricky business, and users may want a heated build volume and high-temperature bed in addition to the heater cartridge.

Pricing for hotside kits runs the gamut, depending on the type of heater and the number of nozzles. For a kit with no nozzles and a high-precision heater, you’ll be looking at ~$90 (€82.95), moving up to ~$330 (€308.95) for a kit with a high-temperature heater and the “fully loaded” nozzle set. Users can also separately purchase each component – nozzles, sensors, heaters – in the HTX lineup for varying prices.
