The new RapidChange Revo, E3D’s toolless hot end system, is available for pre-order today, December 23. All Revo hot end designs revealed so far – the Revo Six, Micro, and Hemera – are included in available pre-orders. So, there’s a tip for your last-minute Christmas gifts.

The 3D printer OEM revealed the RapidChange Revo ecosystem at this year’s TCT 3Sixty in Birmingham, England. The hot end system, described by E3D as a “nozzle-swapping ecosystem,” enables toolless nozzle swapping at room temperature without needing to hot tighten. No more broken heat breaks from an over-zealous wrenching. The Revo Six and Micro are available with a single nozzle for ~$95 or as part of kits that include multiple nozzles for ~$150. Shipping is now expected in March 2022.

More are on the way, according to E3D (Source: E3D Online)

The hot end system has significantly changed from traditional hot end designs. RapidChange Revo nozzles now include the heat break and extend into the hot end’s cold side, where they thread. Though engineered very differently, E3D has designed the RapidChange Revo hot ends to be drop-in replacements for their counterparts – the Revo Six is compatible with all current E3D V6 3D printers.

The improved ease of use has had promising implications among makers with physical disabilities, E3D says, resolving a previous hurdle for some. “We have already had heartwarming feedback from testers with physical disabilities, that have commented on how easy it is to change the nozzles relative to the traditional ecosystem,” said Rory Yonge, Lead Engineer of E3D’s hot end team. “Being able to make such a big difference to someone’s life in this respect really spurs us on, and shows we are doing something right in our overall mission to make 3D printing accessible to everyone.”

The all-new RapidChange Revo Micro is E3D’s lightest hot end to date, weighing just 30 grams. Such a light hot end bodes well for nimble printing.

The RapidChange Revo system is a landmark for E3D in more ways than just engineering achievement. It is the first technology the company has filed a patent for (currently pending), breaking a tradition of open-source development since its beginnings in 2012.

While the hot end is patent-pending, its cold side is open source, alleviating any concerns among designers of mounting systems — the company even encourages the design of custom mounting systems and heatsinks. Seeing as the company has applied for two patents this year simply titled “Nozzle”, it seems likely the hot end system’s consumable nozzles will also be protected under a patent.
