E3D has released a standalone gearbox component from its Roto extruder for custom toolheads: the Roto Vitamins.

The device utilizes the gearbox from E3D’s Roto Direct Drive Extruder, but sheds the metal heatsink in favor of a customizable plastic cover that can be used with various 3D printers. It can be paired with Roto filament sensors and tool boards, plus third-party hot ends.

Automatic tensioning by way of a “bi-stable idler mechanism” should help users print with a variety of filaments, as well as release both the nozzle and filament with one hand. E3D has also designed mounts for a few Voron 3D printers specifically, such as the Dragon Burner, that allow for easier and faster integration. You can check those out in the “Upgrade Guides” section of the Roto Vitamins support page.

The Roto Vitamins gearbox is now available on E3D’s website for £35 GBP. There, you can also find full specs and additional information.
