Einstar has officially released the Vega, a handheld 3D scanner the company touts as an “all-in-one” machine. The device went up for preorder in August.
The Vega is capable of scanning, post-processing, and storing models. There are also two scanning modes – Fast and HD – each leveraging a different type of scanning technology.
Fast Mode is meant for large objects, with a working distance of 350-1500 mm, and claimed scanning speeds of up to 20 FPS. To achieve this, it uses an infrared VCSEL projector. HD Mode uses a MEMS projector, and features a working distance of 100-250 mm and claimed speeds of up to 15 FPS.
Hardware-wise, the Vega boasts 32 GB of RAM, a 512 GB SSD, and an eight-core, 2.4 GHz processor – all in a “lightweight” 535 g build. To scan, you’ll use the device’s 48MP RGB camera and 6.4-inch 2K AMOLED screen. Einstar says the Vega can work for up to two hours before it’s in need of a charge, although it can be used while charging, as well.
In addition to wirelessly scanning, the Vega can wirelessly trasfer data and project its display to another screen or monitor. For data transfer, sharing, and storage, the Vega uses Einstar’s Shining 3D cloud platform, which offers 5 GB free for each user.
