Elegoo has pulled back the curtain on the latest iterations of its Mars series of 3D printers, the Mars 5 and Mars 5 Ultra.
The Mars 5 Ultra, perhaps unsurprisingly, boasts the higher resolution of the two, leveraging a 9K mono LCD screen to achieve a claimed XY resolution of 18 x 18 um. Priced at $269, it comes with a build volume of 153.36 x 77.76 x 165 mm and can hit max print speeds of 150 mm/hour, Elegoo says.
It also arrives with a few more premium features than the Mars 5, chief among them Elegoo’s proprietary “tilt release technology”, with which users tilt the vat and LCD screen to remove printed objects from the PFA release film. Additionally, exposure time calibration settings let users fine-tune the amount of time that certain up to eight different parts of a print are exposed to the UV light, while an integrated camera detects empty build plates and warping, and can be used for print monitoring and time-lapse photography.
The Mars 5, meanwhile, clocks in with a 143.43 mm x 89.6 x 150 mm build volume and a 4K mono LCD screen with a claimed XY resolution of 35 x 35 um. It’s slower than its more powerful sibling, with a max print speed of 70 mm/hour. It’s also considerably cheaper than the Ultra, at $179.
Both machines have features like device self-check, a resin shortage sensor, automatic leveling, and “high temperature protection,” which stops printing when UV light reaches 80 ℃ and resumes once it falls. Interacting with the printers comes by way of touchscreen displays, with the Ultra’s slightly larger at four inches compared to the Mars 5’s 3.5-inch screen.
The machines both make their debut at Rapid + TCT 2024 (among other intriguing new products we can’t yet talk about) and are available to preorder from today on the Elegoo web store.
