The next big printer (in more ways than one,) Elegoo’s Jupiter now has a fixed date for its crowdfunding launch. Coming to Kickstarter on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 2 PM UTC (7 AM PT, 10 AM ET), this big block of resin-curing potential is likely to be the hottest cake around.
We’re not ones to suggest that backing a tech project on Kickstarter is a good idea (remember, Kickstarter is not a store), but in the interest of public service, here’s your warning. Set your alarm, grab a coffee, and limber up that refresh-smashing finger because, in all likelihood, the early-bird-backer rewards will disappear in minutes, if not seconds.
500 of the earliest birds will be able to pledge $600 for the reward of one Elegoo Jupiter – virtually half-off the printer’s claimed retail price of $1,300.
Though not on Kickstarter, the company’s last large-format machine, the Saturn, was snapped up in short order and didn’t become widely available until much, much later. That might not happen with the Jupiter. But then again, stranger things have happened to 3D printing Kickstarter campaigns. Don’t put money you can’t afford to lose in towards one.
