What a tease! Elegoo has disclosed the silhouettes of a handful of upcoming printer releases, daring the community to guess what they are.

It would appear that this new crew of extraterrestrials will find their way to Earth for initial contact on May 13, 2021, which is when the first machine will be revealed. The others will get their own reveal every week after that – you can throw your guess at the company’s Facebook group for a chance to win one of the new printers.

So with the shroud of mystery hanging over these four new machines, it got us thinking – given what we know of Elegoo’s past releases and how they typically name things, can we predict precisely what the new machines are? With a crystal ball in hand, we’re getting predictive.

Patterns

We’re no strangers to Elegoo’s printers, and across all of our experience with them, there’s one simple, observable fact; Elegoo loves itself some planetary bodies. Currently, there are eight planets in our solar system (sorry, Pluto). With Elegoo covering Mars, Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, and, to a lesser degree, Jupiter, that leaves only a few uncolonized planets for the company to tap for names.

Not Uranus

It could be that for the distinctively FDM-shaped printer – the machine that will be unveiled first – we will see a new flag rise on one of the remaining orbs. It has an Ender 5-like shape and could even be a CoreXY, which would be an exciting shot in the arm of budget 3D printing. So assuming it’s an all-new series, we’re left with Venus, Earth, or Uranus for the name. Earth doesn’t feel right for this, leaving us with Venus or Uranus. For reasons we probably (hopefully) don’t need to explain, Venus is our bet.

Three Devices

Leaving the FDM stratosphere behind, we look to the – presumably – resin printers. These will be unveiled in subsequent weeks. Interestingly, the announcement newsletter Elegoo released references only three new machines, despite the image showing four devices. Mhh, does that mean one of the new printers comes in two sizes? Or is one of the displayed black boxes not a printer, but maybe a large curing station? If so, then that would make one of them a new Mercury series machine. Questions upon questions.

Remembering back to a long-forgotten Elegoo announcement about a resin printer even larger than the Saturn, by the name of Jupiter (obviously!), has us thinking we might be about to get our first glimpse of it.

Mars 3 Pro?

Again, speculation, but surely the safest bet of all these machines is that one will be a new Mars series machine. The steady march of progress and the short times between past Mars releases suggest that one shadowy spot in Elegoo’s teaser must be a Mars. The Mars 2 Pro came before the Mars 2 last time around, so let’s pin our guess on the Mars 3 Pro making a show.

Whether any of our guesses hit even remotely close to home, we don’t know yet. But we’ll be keeping tabs to bring you the full details once we have them – here’s hoping we’re not neuralyzed in the meantime.
