Embrace the scenic surrounds of Canada’s Purcell Mountains from your private terrace, the warmth of a stylishly bedecked two-bed tiny home providing the ideal wind-down following a day of hiking, mountain biking, and refreshing dips in Kootenay Lake. Wi-Fi is, of course, provided, but you won’t care with a mountain and lake-side view providing all the entertainment you need.
Sounds good, doesn’t it?
It’s one of the latest homes to hit vacation rentals and experiences site Airbnb. And while, no, this doesn’t mark a shift from 3D printing to travel for All3DP, we take a particular interest because Fibonacci House is a 3D printed structure.
According to the home’s designer and maker, Twente Additive Manufacturing, Fibonacci House is Canada’s first 3D printed home; according to the listing on Airbnb, it’s the world’s first fully 3D printed tiny-home to feature on the site.
In addition to the telltale layer lines in the concrete that comprises its walls, the 35 m2 Fibonacci House has a freeform design that’d be difficult to achieve by conventional means. Inspired by its namesake ratio, also known as the “golden ratio,” the house features a curve from its outside wall that spirals in on itself – not unlike a nautilus shell or countless other examples seen in nature.
Inside, a kitchenette, bathroom with shower, and two bedding spaces with mezzanine areas demonstrate the project’s intent to maximize living space while reducing material costs.
Made up of 20 printed elements and built over 11 days, the house serves as a testbed for a project of World Housing, a Canada-based nonprofit. The organization aims to build a community of affordable living using lessons learned from the Fibonacci House’s design and construction.
Besides a great vacation, staying at Fibonacci House promises a more benevolent stay, too. All proceeds from rentals via Airbnb will be diverted into World Housing’s affordable homes project.
All details of the house can be found on Airbnb, along with the chance to book a stay. There’s a 3-night stay minimum, with one night pegged at $130 ($160 CAD) per night, excluding fees and service charges.
