After years of planning Formnext USA, to be held in Chicago, April 8-10, 2025, organizers today announced the event is “postponed” indefinitely. Formnext in Frankfurt Germany will take place as usual, Nov. 19-22, 2025.
“Due to an unfavorable scheduling constellation and the challenging situation in the AM industry, Formnext Chicago will not take place in 2025 and will be postponed,” Mesago Messe Frankfurt said in a statement. “The current environment with economic challenges and geopolitical uncertainties, as well as the transformation phase of the Additive Manufacturing industry, are putting many companies under considerable pressure.”
Competition with North America’s largest 3D printing expo Rapid + TCT was also a contributing factor. TCT moved its US event in Detriot to the exact same dates as Formnext USA causing exhibitors and attendees to make a difficult choice.
Mesago Messe Frankfurt said it tried to resolve the scheduling situation with all parties involved and players right up to the end, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
“After careful consideration and intensive discussions with our key partners, we have jointly decided to postpone the start of Formnext Chicago. We are convinced that it is in the best interests of the industry and the companies involved,” explains Sascha Wenzler, vice president at Mesago Messe Frankfurt.
The Chicago event was to be launched in partnership with AMT (The Association For Manufacturing Technology), Gardner Business Media (publisher of Additive Manufacturing Magazine), and Messe Frankfurt USA. All parties are now “committed to developing a new strategic approach for the US market,” according to its statement.
No new dates for a North American version of Formnext were announced.
