Last week, 3D printing companies from across the world gathered in Frankfurt for Formnext 2018, a highly esteemed additive manufacturing conference where a cascade of new products and ideas are put on display. One of the more impressive machines featured on the trade show floor was the INTAMSYS FUNMAT PRO 410, a professional 3D printer that aims to fuse ease of use with the ability to produce high-performance functional parts.
Designed and manufactured by INTAMSYS in Shanghai, the FUNMAT PRO 410 is the latest addition to the company’s FUNMAT series line. Judging by the listed features and capabilities, this 3D printer offers everything that a professional or small business is looking for in an FDM machine.
INTAMSYS created the FUNMAT PRO 410 with both the office and manufacturing facility in mind, leading to the development of a compact system that can produce industrial-grade parts.
Starting at $20,000, this system is an affordable option for small businesses, engineers, designers, and manufacturing companies of all shapes and sizes.
Following in the footsteps of the FUNMAT HT, which was released at Formnext two years ago, INTAMSYS has implemented a number of improvements into FUNMAT PRO 410 3D printer. According to Charles Han, CEO of INTAMSYS, the manufacturer’s latest piece of hardware was created to allow users to experiment with more engineering-grade materials and industrial applications.
“Since we launched our first high-performance functional materials 3D printer FUNMAT HT two years ago in Formnext, a lot of customers have been attracted by its excellent multiple functional materials 3D printing capabilities and its affordable price. This desktop functional material 3D printer has empowered customer more possibilities to explore more functional material and more potential applications,” Han said.
“As more and more customers knew the potential behind FUNMAT HT, they requested us with higher requirements, such as a bigger print size, easier to use, higher printing speed etc. FUNMAT PRO 410 is the right answer to our customer requirements.”
First and foremost, the FUNMAT PRO 410 is engineered to print with an extensive range of high-performance materials like PEEK, PC, ABS, composites, and many others. Not only can you print functional prototypes and end-use parts, but the generous 305 x 305 x 406 mm build volume enables users to print on a large scale.
Other notable features include dual extrusion 3D printing, a layer resolution of up to 50 microns, and an assortment of attributes that make the 3D printing process as easy and efficient as possible.
In order to 3D print with over 20 high-end material types, the FUNMAT PRO 410 is able to reach a maximum nozzle temperature of 450℃, along with a build plate temperature of 160℃ and stable build chamber temperature of 90℃. Even the filament chamber is heated, ensuring that moisture absorption doesn’t take place during the print process.
Using the newly implemented smart dual nozzle system, users can adjust the support material nozzle up and down while a print is in progress. By adding this mechanism, the manufacturer claims that they have eliminated the model scratching problem that hinders basic dual extrusion 3D printers.
On top of that, INTAMSYS provides a variety of support materials that are optimized for different materials. There’s SP1000 for PLA, SP2000 for engineering-grade plastics like PA, PC, PC+CF, and ABS, as well as SP5000 for functional materials such as PEEK, PEKK, PEEK+CF, PEI, PPSU, and so on. All three of these support materials are water soluble and breakaway, providing users with smoother print surfaces.
Aside from professional-grade capabilities, another major selling point for the FUNMAT PRO 410 is the ease of use, which is primarily prompted by automation. This 3D printer includes a lot of accessibility-driven features, such as automatic leveling, filament jam warning, filament run-out warning, automatic nozzle cleaning, and power failure recovery.
An additional boost to accessibility is the 7-inch smart touchscreen that provides access to print settings and other features. Users also have connectivity via WiFi and ethernet, making it easy to manage the printer and continuously produce parts without wasting time.
