LulzBot has released a new lineup of plug-and-play toolheads. Dubbed the Galaxy Series, the toolheads arrive with a host of benefits for LulzBot 3D printers, the company claims. Not only are they quieter and faster, but they also feature “no-guesswork” filament tensioning and more compact form factors.
There are five toolheads in total, three of which are distinct models. First up is the Meteor, which comes in two versions – the 1.75 mm Meteor 175 and the 2.85 mm Meteor 285. Both toolheads retail for $395 and boast dual-gear, direct drive extruders paired with nickel-plated copper alloy hotends – a Bondtech and Slice Engineering combo by way of the Bondtech LGX Ace – plus a “CFD-verified 360° part cooling fan shroud.” The toolhead can be swapped out one-handed, Lulzbot says – a continuation of a standard the new LulzBot established with its toolless-assembly SideKick 3D printers.
Meanwhile, the Asteroid 285 is aimed at those looking to achieve “large volume, high-flow” printing. It retails for $745 and features a 1.2 mm abrasion-resistant nozzle (upgradeable to 2.4 mm by way of a $69 kit), 100 W of heating power, a Slice Engineering Magnum+ hot end, and a convection shield.
Rounding out the Galaxy series are the Twin Nebula 175 and Twin Nebula 285 dual-extruders. The Twin Nebula 175 is compatible with 1.75 mm filament, while the Twin Nebula 285 accepts 2.85 mm materials, naturally.
Both toolheads also feature linear actuators and built-in nozzle retraction. No pricing information is available for either of the Twin Nebulas, although LulzBot says they will be released in Q4 of 2024.
The Meteor and Asteroid toolheads are available now through the LulzBot store. More details can be found in the company’s blog post introducing the toolheads.
