Anycubic has released the Photon Mono M5s Pro – the follow-up machine to last year’s Photon Mono M5s, which is our current pick for the best mid-size resin printer and best resin printer under $500.
The M5s Pro is essentially a bolstered version of its predecessor with a slightly larger build volume of 223.78 x 126.38 x 200 mm (5.7 L), light uniformity of 85% compared to the M5s’ 80%, and a higher 14K resolution (13,312 x 5,120 pixels) – compared to the M5s’ 12K – for an XY resolution of 16.8 x 24.8-micron.
Like the M5s, the M5s Pro claims a 105 mm/h print speed, has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi and USB connectivity, and features such as device self-check, resin detection, print monitoring, and a levelling-free design.
New to the Pro is a resin residue detection function, which leverages a “mechanical algorithm” to alert users of residue left in the tank. That algorithm also works in real-time to calculate and adjust peeling height in an effort to improve both print success rates and speed.
The M5s Pro also comes stock with a new, combo air heater and purification unit that can heat the chamber to up to 40 ℃ and maintain pre-print resin temperatures of 20 ℃ . For air purification, an “activated carbon component” absorbs odors.
The air heater and purifier may be the biggest selling point for the M5s Pro; we’ve attributed heated vats to much higher print success rates, but haven’t compared the effects of a heated enclosure. Sentiment from the community seems to consider the two comparable, though.
The printer is currently available for an early bird price of $459 – an approximately 20% discount on its $579 MSRP – until January 25 on the Anycubic Photon Mono M5s Pro product page. There, you’ll also find full specs and an in-depth comparison between it and the regular M5s.
