The provisional calendar for the 2019 FIM Enel MotoE World Cup has been released with 19 races. For those not familiar with this world cup, you can expect to find only electric motorcycles racing.
Energica Motor Company is an Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer entering its 2019 Ego Corsa race bikes into the competition. However, the technical supporter of development for this bike is CRP Technology, the 3D printing company.
The resulting bikes have new and updated 3D printed fairing which has been manufactured specifically for the Ego Corsa. The two companies are still working hard to make sure it is ready to race.
During the latest series of tests on the bike, it was taken to the road and development appeared to be on the right track. In a press release, CRP explains that the 3D printed fairing has improved aerodynamics.
“We have had the fairing available in short time… This fairing is not only more aerodynamic, but it also has a smaller frontal and lateral section. These improvements led to an increase in terms of performance and they led to achieve greater manageability in fast corners,” explain the Energica technical staff.
CRP Technology 3D printed the fairing via Laser Sintering using Windform XT 2.0 Carbon-fiber reinforced composite material. This is a high-performance material which is proving to fair well during tests.
In a press release, CRP explains: “Thanks to the professional 3D printing and CRP Technology’s Windform composite materials, it is possible to modify motorcycle components – even large ones – from one race to the next ones, in order to test different solutions directly on the track.”
This was hugely beneficial with the time crunch felt by Energica’s technical staff. The team has been under the pressure of an intense schedule of testing the Energica Ego Corsa at MotoGP venues and also keeping it a secret from competitors.
In fact, the 2019 version of the Energica Ego Corsa has completed an average of 60 laps per day, covering a total distance of 4000km since March.
