In a blog post last week, Peopoly announced it is testing the waters for a potential IDEX upgrade kit for the Magneto X 3D printer.

The OEM says the printer’s beltless design means that adding another extruder would be “a lot simpler” – and would ostensibly enable users to create multi-material or dual-part prints, as well as those with water-soluble supports. The blog post announcement also asks users for their input into what they’d like to see in such an upgrade.

Details at this point are scarce, although Peopoly does lay out a rough plan that outlines the IDEX kit’s ifs and whens. It seems that the first two steps—gathering feedback and developing an internal prototype—are already underway (the blog post shows an “early prototype” the company is currently developing).

If the plan goes ahead as intended, Peopoly will next work on creating an “‘experimental beta’ kit for tech-savvy users.” If all goes well there, the kit would then move into full production.

While not necessarily commonplace, IDEX machines do seem to be enjoying a modest surge in popularity in the past years, examples of which include Caribou3D and Snapmaker releasing IDEX 3D printers – and a Klipper update last November offering support for IDEX copy and mirror modes.
