Phrozen has announced preorders for a more affordable version of its Sonic 8K resin 3D printer will open this Wednesday, August 9 at 22:00 EDT.

The Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K S serves as the latest addition to the OEM’s fast-growing S-series of machines, which “aim to make 8K printers more affordable to everyone”, according to a press release. Phrozen says it will feature a build volume of 330 x 185 x 300 mm, and leverage a 405 nm ParaLED Matrix 3.0 light source to reach speeds of up to 400 layers per hour at a 43-micron resolution.

The machine, which will be available for $1499.99, will boast a Z-axis height of 300 mm, as well as a three-inch touchscreen, a front USB port, and a flip-up lid. There will also be a built-in resin drip hanger, on which users can hang the build plate after prints for excess resin to drip back into the resin vat to save material and make for easier cleanup.

Several add-ons, meanwhile, will work to expand the Mega 8K S’ capabilities, including the Cure Mega S cure station ($459.99), Wash Mega S wash station ($299.99), and an automatic resin feeder ($149.99) that will pump and refill resin without user input.

In our review of the Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K, we called the machine “the best large resin 3D printer” – although pointed out that its size is overkill for all but the heaviest of users. That will probably hold true for its newer, slightly scaled-down successor (in press materials, even Phrozen says the Sonic Mega 8K S is positioned for “printing business owners [or] those who seek to print in huge quantities”), so keep that in mind if you’re planning to preorder the Sonic Mega 8K S through the OEM’s website.
