Making 3D printed miniature figurines from resin is cool and all, but have you ever tried to resin 3D print a shelf? Stack it high with bowling balls and laugh at the absurdity.

You probably haven’t, and the reason is that, while giving high detail, resin 3D printing is often a brittle experience. Consumer resin 3D printers have become increasingly popular, but the vast majority of consumer materials available for such systems are suited mostly miniatures – high detail, but low toughness. Tough resins are a thing, though, and now Phrozen, maker of the Sonic Mini 4K, has partnered with leading German high-performance materials manufacturer Henkel to release Onyx Rigid Pro410, a durable black resin that promises exactly that – to resin 3D print a shelf and much more.

The material is said to provide an exceptional surface finish and extremely high print accuracy. Onyx Rigid Pro440 joins a growing cabal of tough resins, combining the practicality of run-at-the-mill resin with superior engineering qualities needed for functional objects.

In a nutshell, Phrozen now offers its own Henkel-backed flavor of resin for you to now create, among better world-bettering uses, DIY clothes hangers, grocery bag holders, storage organizers, laptop stands, wall hooks, and – of course – even tabletop miniatures. The latter will be the same; they just last longer.
