In a notice sent to All3DP shortly ahead of a public announcement, Qidi Tech acknowledges concerns regarding “relays” inside the company’s latest 3D printer, the Plus4.
Specific to Plus4 3D printers in 110V countries, the statement explains that Qidi Tech has observed in testing that “in 110V areas, under extended full-load operation, the high temperatures can accelerate aging of the inductor, resulting in blackened coils in some cases.”
For context, the Qidi Tech Plus4 features an inbuilt “second-gen” chamber heating unit, which can heat the print chamber to 65°C. The statement continues “… rest assured that there is no fire risk associated with this issue, and no fire has been reported so far.”
To remedy things, Qidi Tech says it will ship “optimized replacement heater power boards” users “in 110V areas.” The company says the repair “only takes 10 minutes” to complete.
Qidi Tech is also extending the warranty “for all users who purchase Qidi Plus4” by 12 months.
It appears the issue has dogged the Plus4 since its launch in early fall 2024. Among the handful of adjustments suggested for the printer on the Qidi-Community GitHub repo, one details a solid-state relay (SSR) upgrade that replaces Qidi Tech’s stock component for trusted off-the-shelf alternatives. Such a move is advised only for those who know exactly what they’re doing with electrical systems.
