Fotis Mint, a well-known artist in the 3D printer community, has added their back catalog of 3D fan art to Printables in bulk; making the models easily accessible for free download. Mint’s Printables profile now contains over 150 models from popular IP, many of which were requests from the artist’s Patreon contributors.

Among the popular IP Mint’s 3D sculpts pay homage to are Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Batman, Game of Thrones, and much, much more.

The bulk upload kicks off the artist’s new policy to upload all fan art to Printables after just a month of exclusive Patreon availability. Mint says in a Patreon post that the change is coming about due to controversy surrounding fan art.

“Fan art has always been a subject of controversy in the 3D printing community. Many artists get criticized for indirectly profiting from others IP. This is difficult as an artist who gets many requests to make fan art.”

The artist added that piracy is another concern, having their work sold for profit by others. Presumably, having the models freely and easily accessible through a trusted source like Printables will help prevent any ill-gotten gains from the thieves.

Mint says the change will see them freed from the “fan art controversy” and able to spend more time on their own art.

You can now find all of Fotis Mint’s 3D fan art on their Printables profile, or a month earlier via Patreon if you choose to support the artist.
