The 3DBenchy license crisis has come full circle.
Printables, the repository where a controversy kicked off in the 3D printing community when a third party reported remixes of the iconic 3DBenchy model and initiated license enforcement, is now holding a 3DBenchy remix contest to celebrate the model’s subsequent relicensing to CC0.
The contest runs until March 9 23:59 UTC. To enter, take the 3DBenchy model and “modify it, mash it up, turn it into something completely unexpected—just have fun with it.” (the multi-part model found on GitHub might be helpful here). As per Printable’s usual flash contest rules, each participant can upload and enter five new models.
Winners receive 500 Prusameters: the repository’s reward points that can be redeemed for Prusa prizes on the rewards page – 350 Prusameters nets a spool of filament! Other rewards include a special Printables badge (bragging rights) and maybe “some other small prizes at [Printable’s] discretion.”
